On Thursday, May 7, members of the West Trenton Garden Club gathered for our first field trip of the season at the beautiful Sayen House and Gardens. More than a dozen members and friends enjoyed a leisurely stroll through the park’s winding paths, peaceful ponds, charming gazebos, and breathtaking displays of azaleas and rhododendrons.

The weather could not have been more perfect. Warm sunshine, gentle breezes, and comfortable temperatures created an ideal day for exploring one of Mercer County’s most treasured public gardens.

Throughout the visit, club member Jeff Tryon shared his knowledge of the many varieties of plants and trees growing throughout the gardens. Members often paused along the trails to admire unusual blooms, identify favorite shrubs, and capture photographs of the season’s spectacular color. Around every corner came delighted “oohs” and “ahs” as vibrant blossoms reflected beautifully across the ponds and garden beds.

Sayen Gardens offered endless inspiration for gardeners and nature lovers alike. From delicate blooms tucked beside shaded walkways to dramatic masses of flowering azaleas, the gardens were truly at their spring peak. The peaceful setting provided a wonderful opportunity for members to relax, connect, and celebrate the beauty of the season together.

This post features some of the exquisite specimens photographed during our visit, showcasing the remarkable beauty we were fortunate to experience that day.

We are already looking forward to our next adventure — a visit to PHS Meadowbrook Farm on Saturday, June 20. We hope many members and friends will join us for another enjoyable day of gardening inspiration and fellowship.
