This summer marks a big moment in our nation’s history — the 250th anniversary of American independence — and the West Trenton Garden Club is joining in the celebration!

WTGC is proud to be planning a family-friendly community event at Birmingham Park in honor of this historic milestone. We’re working in conjunction with Mercer 250, Trenton 250, and Ewing 250 to create an afternoon full of fun, reflection, and patriotic spirit.

While the details are still coming together, you can expect something special on Friday, July 3rd, right where Bear Tavern Road meets West Upper Ferry Road. This quiet corner of Ewing holds a fascinating story: it’s the very spot where General George Washington and his troops split their forces during the daring march to Trenton in 1776. A reenactor in uniform will bring that story to life with vivid, family-friendly storytelling throughout the afternoon.

At the heart of our event will be children placing small flags around the park — a hands-on tribute to the courage and sacrifice that shaped our nation. Plans are also underway for craft activities like making tri-cornered hats, listening to read-aloud stories about America’s early days, and perhaps even entering a history-themed essay contest.

Of course, there will be refreshments and a warm welcome for all ages. Whether you’re a history buff, a parent with little ones, or just looking to enjoy an afternoon in a beautifully revitalized local park, we hope you’ll save the date and stop by.

More updates will be coming as the plans are finalized — so stay tuned and check our website, westtrentongc.org, for the latest.

Let’s gather as a community to celebrate the past, enjoy the present, and inspire the future. We can’t wait to see you there!
