Each spring, the West Trenton Garden Club comes together for one of its most anticipated traditions — the annual Spring Flower Sale. This year’s sale was a wonderful success, with over 2,000 annual plants and herbs finding new homes throughout our community!
From the moment the delivery truck arrived, to the final car being loaded, the event reflected what makes our club so special: teamwork, enthusiasm, and a shared love of gardening.
The front lawn of Elle Belcheff’s home became a lively display of color and texture. Rows of herbs, annuals, and hanging baskets created a vibrant temporary “garden center” right in the neighborhood. With cooperative weather both days, everything looked lush, healthy, and ready for planting.
Gardeners could choose from a wide variety of favorites, including fragrant herbs like basil, lavender, rosemary, and thyme, and French tarragon, along with bright geraniums, begonias, impatiens, multi-colored coleus, and more. There was truly something for every garden, patio, or windowsill.
This large-scale effort was chaired by Elle Belcheff, whose organization and hospitality set the tone for a smooth and enjoyable event. She was supported by a dedicated team of club members: Rick Lazarick, Barbara Lear, Karen Lewandowski, George McElrath, Virginia (Ginny) Sari, and Jeff Tryon. Together, they handled every step of the process — collecting orders, unloading the delivery truck, sorting plants by customer, organizing pickups, collecting payments, and helping customers load their cars with their new plants.
Beyond the flowers themselves, the sale is an important fundraiser for the club, supporting our programs, community projects, and educational efforts throughout the year.
Events like this help make everything possible — from guest speakers and workshops to local beautification projects. They also provide a wonderful opportunity for members to connect with neighbors and share gardening knowledge.
The Spring Flower Sale continues to thrive thanks to the time, energy, and care contributed by our volunteers. Their efforts turn a complex undertaking into a fun community event. To everyone who helped or who purchased plants, thank you for making this year’s sale such a success. We hope your gardens are already bursting with color!
